Migration and Europe – Research & Policy
This work is informed by the Trust’s commitment to reframing the debate on migration and asylum and to exploring ways in which immigration and integration policy can be managed in a socially just and equitable manner.
Although our work is principally UK-focused, it is clear that national developments can only be accurately understood in a wider European or even global context. Hence we have also developed partnerships with organisations and counterparts in Europe and North America in order to share good practice at both policy and grassroots level.
Current work and partnerships include:
- Transatlantic Trends: Immigration survey – an annual internationally comparative opinion poll on attitudes to immigration and integration in Europe and North America.
- The Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford – provides independent, authoritative, evidence-based analysis of data on migration and migrants in the UK.
- Cities of Migration – a web-based project that showcases good practices in the integration of urban migrants.
- European Programme for Integration and Migration – grant-making programme that aims to strengthen the role played by NGOs campaigning for a European agenda that benefits both migrants and host communities.
- UK policy partners of the Migration Policy Institute’s Transatlantic Council on Migration, a deliberative body that examines policy issues and informs migration policymaking processes in Europe and North America.
- Policy Network’s research programme examining the complex relationship between Immigration and Political Trust.
- The Barrow Cadbury Trust currently chairs the Diversity Migration and Integration Interest Group a group of funders with an interest in migration and integration issues co-ordinated by the European Foundation Centre.
