How to apply for a grant
Please read the FAQs and the important points below before applying for a grant.
-
Important Points:
- We have no minimum or maximum amount for our grants.
- We normally provide seed corn funding or grants for project work. However, we may fund running and core costs to organisations we haev built relationships with over some time.
- We do not have a standard application form and you can apply at any time.
- We always receive many more requests for funding than we could possibly hope to support. This means that even if your project meets all the conditions, we still may not be able to provide funding.
- We purposely limit our administrative support to maximise resources for grantees. As a result, we do not acknowledge all of the requests we receive. However, we will contact you if we intend to follow up your expression of interest.
Stage 1
Send us an expression of interest.
Your expression of interest
We do not use a standard form and prefer you to use your own words to describe your work. However, we are aware that some people find it helpful to have a set of headings they can use. You do not need to follow these but you should use them if they are helpful. Please do not write more than four sides of A4 paper.
-
1. Background
Please give a brief description of your organisation – its aims, the date it was set up, number of staff, turnover, main geographical area where you work and any recent significant achievements or activities. Tell us something about the relevant experience and skills of the main staff involved. Include a contact name, a postal address, an e-mail address and a phone number. -
2. What you are proposing to do
Here we want you to tell us what it is you intend to do, how you are going to go about it, where it will take place and how long it is likely to take. -
3. What you aim to achieve
Tell us what you are aiming to achieve through this project, who the main beneficiaries will be and how this meets the programme objective. -
4. Why there is a need for this work
Tell us why you want to do this work. On what evidence did you make your decision? Are you aware of others doing similar work? -
5. Who you work with
Tell us which organisations you are networked with and where you have any formal partnerships -
6. What makes your organisation eligible
Tell us how your organisation meets the characteristics given under 'Who we will work with'.
-
7. Which programme priority you aim to meet
Tell us which programme you are interested in and the specific objectives you feel you fulfil. -
8. What the dissemination potential of the project is?
Are there likely to be any lessons for regional or national policy or practice? How are these going to be promoted? -
9. How will you measure success
Tell us how you will monitor the work in progress, how you intend to evaluate your work against your targets and how any knowledge gained can be shared. -
10. Financial information
We need an income and spending budget for each year of the proposed work. If necessary, include footnotes to explain how you worked out the figures.
Stage 2
-
If we accept your expression of interest, we will contact you to ask for an application. This may need more detailed information or an explanation of points in your initial proposal. At this stage, we will also need extra information. We will probably want to arrange to visit you or we may ask you to meet with us at one of our offices. Getting through to this stage does not guarantee that you will receive a grant. This stage is likely to take from six to twelve months but may be longer if we need to carry out more work on the application.
